The Green Label Ghana Foundation is a company limited by guarantee. It is a Public-Private-Partnership initiative started by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), working with GIZ and Ghana Standards Authority, along with other partners including GhanaVeg (now HortiFresh), Christian Aid, Agro-Eco, the Food and Drug Authority, and Quin Organics.

Registered in February 2017, the Green Label Ghana Foundation is an independent non-profit organization with the object of providing certification under the name “Ghana Green Label Scheme”.

The Scheme is aimed at promoting safe food production using good and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices as well as safe postharvest handling and distribution of fruits and vegetables.

The implementation of the scheme will increase competiveness and enhance access to quality and safe horticultural produce traded on the domestic market. It will enable the enforcement of compliance and achievement of SPS requirements by exporters through coordination and adequate controls at the farm level. The Scheme is envisaging to develop into a national mechanism for food safety and environmental sustainability in the domestic market for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables as well as the baseline certificate for exports.
